    Rogerio Meneghini

    Rogerio Meneghini obtained a degree in Chemistry in 1965 and Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry in 1970, both from the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Then he spent two years at the Department of Biology of the Stanford University, USA, as a Post-Doc. Back to Brazil, he joined the faculty staff of the Department of Biochemistry of the University of Sao Paulo where he became a full professor in 1984. In 1997 he m oved to the National Laboratory of Synchrotron Radiation, in Campinas, State of Sao Paulo, where he founded the Center of Molecular Structural Biology, aimed at studies of protein atomic structures.

    In 1997 Rogerio Meneghini co-founded the SciELO (Scientic Electronic Library on Line) program, the main aim of which was to improve visibility and quality of Brazilian scientific journals. This is an enterprise operating in the open acc ess mode in the Internet environment, which soon expanded to other Latin American, Caribbean and Iberian countries.

    He has been on the Editorial Boards of the International Journal of Cancer and of Mutation Research. He is a member of  the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and has been granted with the Order of  Scientific Merit by the President of the Brazilian Republic in 2002.
