Panel 6 - Information Technologies - empowering user to publish and to access

Information technologies around Internet are boosting the operation of information sources in the Internet. In one side, it gives the power of publishing to every institution and individual that has access to Internet, which will contribute to a constant increase in the availability of new contents. On the other side, sophisticated mechanisms and procedures are expected to be developed in the coming years to empower users to retrieve the proper and in context information.

Perspective 1: as information technology increasingly empowers librarians, users, information products and services, what do we expect from the Librarians in the future? Will we need a highly technology driven eLibrarian or will we need an essentially human link?

Perspective 2a: the increasing rate of new contents available requires that sophisticated mechanisms of retri e val and data mining become accessible to everybody according their profile and context.

Perspective 2b: is the Internet the solution by itself? Do the Internet global searchers attend health specific demand?

Perspective 3: the issues related to the fact that everybody will become a publisher. Everybody has something to say. How this will contribute to the worldwide development of social networks, social capital, collective intelligence and particularly health?
