This paper presents an experience about the choice of an electronic bibliographic system for Library of Manguinhos, based on committe’s internal reports analysis and technical literature reading about libraries electronic catalogues and services. It presents a historical synthesis of the introduction of the now used bibliographical automatized system for the library´s collections diffusion called “Acervos Online” and services created using new technologies of information: the Library virtual page – promoting services and products, the virtual library and the electronic totem for the local user. It concludes that use of new technologies of information and the chosen adequate software to the library’s improved the creation of new services as well as the coherent interchange between national and international bibliographic information systems.
