P153 - Online Periodicals Database of the Casa de Oswaldo Cruz Library

It presents the Project designed to elaborate a bibliographical database that will provide online access to the periodicals collection of the Casa de Oswaldo Cruz. Aiming at a future availability on the Internet, titles are now being included in the local database, amounting already to 340. The goal is to cover the whole collection of the Library, including current and non-current titles.
The Library of Casa de Oswaldo Cruz is specialized in the following areas of knowledge: History of Medicine, History of Public Health, Philosophy, History and Sociology of Science and History of Diseases, and presents online data concerning its collection of books through the COC database. Its collection of periodicals, however, is not available yet on the Internet, a resource considered as essential to the dissemination of bibliographic information.
The project will allow an update access to the collection of periodicals, fulfilling thus the users´ demand. Articles published in periodicals are considered as update information sources on specific fields of knowledge. In this way, by making information on periodicals available, users will have access to the most recent information in the subject areas covered by the library.
The project will be also important for the Graduation Program on the History of Health Sciences, coordinated by the Casa de Oswaldo Cruz, as it will allow graduate students to remotely access information on the collection of periodicals.
