P46 - Scientific production of teachers and technicians of the Collective Health Institute/UFBA, listed in an index databases LILACS and MEDLINE

The present study describes and analyzes the scientific production of teachers and technicians of the Collective Health Institute (ISC) of the Federal University of Bahia, listed in an index based on LILACS and MEDLINE bibliographical data, during the period from 1982 to 2002. The population under study is made up of twenty (20) teachers belonging to ISC’s permanent board, all of them having a doctor’s degree in their respective fields of activity and of five (5) technicians also belonging to the permanent board, all having a master’s degree and presently taking a doctorate course. Data collection was carried out through bibliographical surveys at Bireme home page, in the advanced research form, using the authorship data field as the main search strategy. According to the information gathered and analyzed through the database, and after the elimination of repeated registers, it was identified that the ISC, during the period from 1982 to 2002, had a total of 472 titles of its scientific production indexed at LILACS and MEDLINE bases, out of which 319 are articles published in periodicals and the remaining titles are distributed among books, book chapters and non-conventional literature. The periodical articles represent 67.58% of the sources used for the distribution of production knowledge, while non-conventional literature comes second place with 11.23%, followed by book chapters representing 9.53% and by books, which occupy the fourth place with 6.14% of the sources used for the divulgation of the scientific production of the group under study. Through these results, it was found that at LILACS database there is a shortage of publications like thesis, dissertations and documents presented at events by the analyzed researchers, hampering the dissemination of the knowledge produced by them.
