P39 - Information Management on AIDS and STD in Brazil via a Georeferenced Panel

Information on the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Brazil has been collected and processed in the last 20 years by the National AIDS Program of the Brazilian Ministry of Health – PN-DST/AIDS. This information management has placed the program in the top of the list of leading health solutions for the AIDS epidemic. Even though it is possible to know where and when HIV infected and AIDS cases are diagnosed, crossing data in a high level has not been done in a routine basis. It is a challenge to integrate multi-referenced and multi-platform information sources, in order to improve the decision making process in many areas such as: epidemiology, treatment, assistance, prevention, laboratory, besides financial resources, nationwide. The georeferenced approach takes into account the characteristic of the country: 27 states, 5.500 provinces and 8,5 million squared kilometers.  Therefore, the National AIDS Program has started in 2005 an information organization project, developed to deal with this knowledge problem. We have created a methodology of how to integrate data spread across nearly 100 information systems and how they can be related via a DataWarehouse technology to enhance knowledge presentation and access. The main goals of the project are:
• assess the use of information by internal and external clients (such as the Federal, State and Municipal governments) for management and decision making, as well as for the population in general;
• integrate information sources via a DW technology to provide a far-reaching solution for better productivity on information search, access and retrieval;
• present information via a georeferenced technology that can account for regional and continental issues on assistance, treatment and prevention of HIV/Aids and related diseases all over the country.
As a partial result, the project team has consolidated information questions from the users and decision makers, mapped the information sources and proposed an intermediate “middleware” technological solu tion to support the multi-level information architecture via a georeferenced panel. In this poster, the schema of the proposed solution will be presented, together with the proposal of a pre-test with the architecture to support the future employment of this system.
