P52 - Knowledge and scientific production in the National Network of Human Milk Banks

Introduction: The forming of abilities toward  a new way of considering the issues related to breast-feeding has already been identified as one of the great challenges for the growth of National Network of Human Milk Banks (NNHMB). From the recognition of the strategical importance of the conceptual elaboration process related to the activities of technological management, it was possible to delimit and choose the field of knowledge management in the NNHMB as a new and basic space for the building of the object study.
Objective: To analyze the scene of knowledge set out by recent scientific production in the NNHMB units and its headquarters.
Material and Method: For a first comprehensive approach with regard to the scene of the knowledge, all abstract presented at the III Brazilian Congress of Human Milk Banks in 2002 were analyzed. The thematic areas were identified and defined on the basis of a convergence of trends according to previous events of the same nature. Results: They can be observ ed in the following table: Thematic area: Breast-feeding, Culture, Citizenship = 77; Breast-feeding Care = 55; Food Technology in HMB = 34; Quality Management in HMB = 33; Information/ Communication in HMB = 5; Total = 204.  Region:  South = 33; Southeastern = 138; Center-West = 9; Northeast = 21; North = 3; Total = 204.
Conclusion: The distribution of the abstracts by thematic area and geographical region shows  a great concentration (83%) of scientific production in the Southern and Southeastern regions, reproducing also the unequal social-economic picture verified in the country. This fact confirms the trend observed in the system of health innovation in Brazil. It can be observed that 91% of the abstracts in the area of food technology were developed in these regions. Only the Southeastern region has been producing abstracts on information and communication. These observations configure strategically and certainly should be carefully be considered for the planning of the Konwledge Management Sy stem of the NNHMB,above all in its function of transference.
