P74 - Considerations for the construction of Web-based information systems

To implement an information system based on computers, one must consider & quot;where & quot; and & quot;how & quot; to store the information: electronic files format; space on hard disk; data inclusion, edition, and exclusion; information search and recovery; etc. This poster proposes a minimum & quot;decision tree & quot;, in the form of a flowchart, to aid people that have to think about those considerations and make choices to construct the computational tool. The Poster does not support any specific point-of-view, but tries to show prerequisites and consequences of the choices involved in the construction of a web-based system (a system that uses Internet technologies). Its purpose is to give directions and subsidies for executive decisions based on: 1) standards for electronic file formats; 2) infrastructure requirements and its installation costs; 3) operational costs; 4) work focus (internal or external client). The navigation within the flowchart will depend on the work lines established previously by the ones responsible for the organization.
This work results from experiences developed together with several institutions since 2001. Among them, the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization, the Brazilian Association of Nursing and the Health Public Studies Nucleus of the Center for Advance d Multidisciplinary Studies of the University of Brasilia.
