P76 - Scientific production of Instituto do Coração HC/FMUSP - a thematic trend: equity, quality, and efficiency

Introduction: Instituto do Coração - HC/FMUSP is a university hospital whose main pillar is based on the triad: Healthcare, Teaching and Research. It generates knowledge to a specialized community and communicates its to the whole population through the provision of care, giving equal opportunities to all (social equity). It is scientific production that envisages challenges to upcoming years, which are the main focuses of its performance and institutional revitalization. It is a source of stimulus and motivation. It requires alliances and partnerships. Objective: To check quantity, quality and efficiency of scientific papers published to generate knowledge and disseminate information. Methods: By means of online retrieval of papers, we collected the necessary information to list the different categories of scientific papers developed in the institution within the scope of Equity, Quality and Efficiency (ethics). Results: As years passed by, we went through different stages: 1977 to 1982, building the organ izational structure and medical groups, a challenge to national competition; 1983 to 1990 - reinforcement of the scientific structure and international insertion; 1991 to 1997 - international acknowledgement; 1998 to 2004 - international consolidation through publications and presentations in key international conferences. Each of the stages represented major institutional efforts. Conclusion: Access equity and use of scientific publications generated or not by the institution, recognizing each ones' rights. Quality - implies researcher-users to receive timely, efficiently and safely all information contained in the collection of Service of Library, Scientific and Didactic Documentation “Prof. Luiz Venere Décourt”. Efficiency - ratio between efforts endeavored and results obtained. Favorable ratio between achieved results and costs of employed resources. There is no future without acknowledgment of the past and hard work in the present. InCor gathers it all, demonstrating the ability and potential of its u niversity hospital, staff and medical faculty, within a developing country such as Brazil, to produce its own Scientific Topics that compete with top universities in the world. This is a real portrait of everything produced at Instituto do Coração, Hospital das Clinicas, Medical School, University of São Paulo.
