This paper presents a brief overlook of Medical Informatics epistemology, detailing each concept involved with the subject, the relation between these concepts and the analysis of the discipline of Medical Informatics under the epistemological perspective.
First, it presents an overview of epistemology and its phases, the chronological development of science and technology epistemology and its respective definitions. Then, it discusses the rising of concepts related to Medical Informatics and analysis of this discipline within the epistemological, scientific and technological contexts. Last, proposals to classify Medical Informatics are presented, besides topics for discussion about positioning of this subject in a scientific and technologic scope.
